Vatican - as the sun set over Rome and the turbulent eight-year papacy, Pope Benedict XVI, shy theologian who never seemed entirely at home in the spotlight was whisked by helicopter to resign on Thursday.
 
But while Benedict, 85, retired to the life of prayer, study, walk in the garden, and piano practice, leaving in its path hierarchy, the Vatican experienced scandals and intrigues, which cast a shadow over the Cardinals loaded elected successor to the Conclave this month .

Even when the Cardinals met with the Pope in his final days, pledging "unconditional respect and obedience" to his successor, and urges the Cardinals in the work of the band "the good of the Church of Reconciliation, the differences were obvious.

On Thursday, the Vatican has confirmed that some of the phones ordered wiretaps in the investigation of the leak of the Vatican. Other cardinals were truly in crisis management in the Benedict papacy.
